i can see it but can i capture it?

i bought a new camera just before baby boy was born; i had a canon rebel EOS film camera that was gathering dust (& a canon SD800 that i carried with me everywhere). so decided to merge the two - i bought a canon rebel xsi. now i am trying to remember how to take photos... thank goodness i don't have to try to remember how to run a dark room.
